Joy Webster is an award-winning director, screenwriter and editor based in Toronto, Canada. A former classically trained ballet dancer, Joy supplements her film work with photography and video production.

 

A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University's (formerly Ryerson) film program, Joy was the recipient of the Norman Jewison Award for best thesis film for In The Weeds (2015). 

 

Her second short, Game (2017), screened at over 20 film festivals, winning a dozen awards including “Best Short” at Canadian Film Fest,  “Best Fiction Short” and “Best Emerging Filmmaker” at Yorkton Film Festival. Game was broadcasted on CBC, and featured online on Film Shortage and Omeleto with currently over 670k views.

 

Joy's next short, Buzzard (2019), was selected to be part of the Telefilm: Not Short on Talent showcase at the Cannes Short Film Corner, in addition to winning “Best Drama” at Yorkton Film Festival.

Her most recent short, Menace (2022) starring Michaela Kurimsky (Firecrackers), premiered at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival in 2022, and has recently been shortlisted for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards (winning announcement coming in Feb. 2023).

 

Joy is a current Master's candidate in the Scriptwriting & Story Design MFA program at Toronto Metropolitan University and is in development on her first feature film.
